BACK TO SCHOOL.. LONDON AND PARIS!

The summer is officially over and fall always brings fresh starts and new beginnings (a bit like starting a new diet on a Monday, but it’s actually happening!)..

The weather still allows us to wear lightweight layers but the colours are already darken up. It’s time to introduce rich tones like burgundy, metallic accents and blazers becomes our best friends.. But this doesn’t mean we have to give up our statement t-shirts, ripped denim, and yellow accessories. Not just yet. #favouriteseason!!

Who said that back-to-school was only for the kids?

New beginnings and new plans always bring positive energy! A good vibe comes hand-in-hand with new inspiration and for me this i all translating into new projects in the coming months.

Emma started daycare last week and when they say, it’s more emotional for the mother than the child.. Nothing is more true! Good news is that she’s loving it! Not a tear, not sad faces, just an exciting new phase. But someone else is going back to class.. Me! End of this month will bring to the city a new dutch speaker.. ermm, at least I am going to give it a go! Let’s see about this one..

Last but not least, with the ‘duties’ comes the fun too! From next weekend will be all about fashion and fashionista friends! Flight to London booked to spend a long weekend with my bestie Lorna for fashion week then together off to Paris the weekend after! Expect shows, presentations, meetings, shoots, dinner and events!

September is going to be fabulous!

CAMOUFLAGE

If you’ve been reading my blog and follow my Instagram for a while now, you might have noticed – enjoyed – found inspiration – ~~had enough~~.. hopefully not! 😉 that I am a big fan of wardrobe essentials, denim and non-colors..

What can be more effortless that boyfriend jeans and cropped top during summer time? Since fashion blogging and fashion photography is my job, I do get overloaded with clothes.. True that! But feeling good in what I am wearing and staying true to my style without experimenting too much it’s, to me, the most important.. and nowadays I do not accept a job unless it’s a brand that truly reflects my style I feel confident in sharing it with all of you.

Here comes the most coveted question I am being asked these days.. Why I hardly, almost never, show my face on my blog and Instagram?

Because the hobby that I loved much enough to become my job is not necessarily about my daily mood or my daily life.. It’s about a passion for fashion, style, fabrics, photography, lighting, angle.. not necessarily about my face. It’s about what I am wearing, the timeless pieces I invest in, my vision of it and the way I put them together.. About what inspires me, what’s trending at the moment in a way we can wear it on the streets, about the details.. not necessarily a full face shot.

Like the look I am sharing with you today.. It’s so ‘me’ since I feel at the same time comfortable and chic in it. Nothing beats a pair of boyfriend jeans paired with a feminine top and a new bag that, as a contrast, is anything but basic.

The bag is from Republica Moda, a website specialised in latin american premium fashion brands. I finally added some camouflage to my wardrobe because it stays true my my regular non-colour palette but it’s that kind of statement I always like to add to a casual chic outfit built on basics.

With regards to showing you my full face, I didn’t change my mind but I did appreciate all the very kind requests.. Luckly enough, nowadays we have snap chat (username ‘nickyinsideout’) and Instagram Stories which give some insights of our daily life between the outfit pictures and my face (or half of it) is there daily with my darling baby Emma!

KITTEN HEELS WITHOUT LOOKING TOO GIRLY? IT’S POSSIBLE!

If I have to name a trend I wanted to try for a while now, is kitten heels.

The matter was just about finding the right ones for me.. Not too classic, not too girly and not too feminine! (So, would you say, ‘just go for a different style’!? No, I didnt give up!)

It was quite the challenge and it went on for several months until I bumped into these Sargossa beauties!

The key is the ankle boot shape and the statement detail as a spider web that made me feel cool rather than girlie! I paired them with my distressed boyfriend jeans which I am feeling is becoming my forever essential summer and winter. I kept a soft colour palette of denim and white since I wanted to highlight the detail of the shoes, but also add a feminine touch with the flare sleeve, mainly to break the hardness of the distressed denim.

Comfortable footwear is not strange on this blog and my life.. a collection of white sneakers, flats and even birkestock sandals over the summer.. So when I find a pair that is cool, trendy and comfy at the same time, it simply have to be mine! To let you taste the feeling, is like having the support of a high heel but with the comfort of a flat.. Doesn’t it sound like the best combo??

BIRTHDAY TRIP TO VENICE

When I left London to move to Amsterdam what really made me sad was leaving my friends behind. So, when your best friend decides to get on a plane to come and spend your birthday together I couldn’t think of a more perfect gift and a most special birthday! If I say it was extremely perfect and fun, it’s still not enough to describe it!

We stayed at the Bauers, a luxury hotel just steps away from Piazza S.Marco. Imagine the most beautiful terrace on the water where we spent the longest breakfasts and aperitivo hours.. It was just too good! We made sure our days were slow and enjoyable, just enough time for multiple cappuccinos, a stroll around the canals, a boat trip, a gondola ride, outfit shoots and the most yummy lunches and dinner with way too much vino.

I decided to wear something really comfy but chic and edgy at the same time. Here, meet my new Style Butler fringed jacket! I love the classic style of black suede mixed with the fringes edgy details. I have been looking for the perfect one for a long time!! A basic boyfriend jeans and white tee combo suddenly is not so average anymore. I kept it casual with my latest sneakers addiction I got just the day before leaving and added gold details to give the look a little festival vibe. I loved the long rosary necklaces from Amen layered on the basic white t-shirt and a hand candy thanks to Jewelry by Add.

Nothing feels better than slipping into your feet a pair of brand new white sneakers. After all, within all the seasonal trends experimenting, the combo ‘denim + white t-shirt + blazer + sneakers’ is still the coolest one in my opinion!

When they say there are no distances nowadays, I could not agree more. All the ridiculously cool and adventurous plans we made before I left, are now becoming reality and any occasion, fashion week and birthday is a good enough excuse to jump on a plane and meet up with Lorna. Drinking wine while planning the next trip is becoming our favourite thing to do.. Expect more sunny Italian destinations this summer!!

DENIM ON DENIM

Writing today’s post from Italy on my birthday in a total state of happiness! Emma is asleep next to me, my boyfriend is flying in from Amsterdam, I am getting ready to go out to celebrate with my friends and family, and a birthday trip to Venice is coming on Monday.

As a thirty-something girl, together with my lifestyle, also my style is adjusting and becoming more stable. This means less trend-experimenting and more awareness of what my own style is about. If you ask me what I will be wearing this spring summer I answer, without a shadow of a doubt, my closet will be made of denim, whites, black and tan colours. I went through a lot of ‘fashion stages’ and it took me about thirty years to become so firm on my own taste but there are some combos that never get olds.

While it’s tempting to wear my boyfriend jeans all day every day, it doesn’t hurt to shape up the denim game introducing a skirt and pairing it with a different wash denim shirt and statement OTK boots. Finally, I am not the kind of girl who likes to look too sexy, especially during the day, so I felt very comfortable adding a black knit to dress down the entire look and giving a chic touch added by the gold details.
