SPRING WARDROBE: 3 MUST-HAVE PIECES

Looking forward to spring is about the only thing keeping us sane those never-ending dark winter days. Sartorially speaking, we all know spring wardrobe brings the needs of new dresses, sandals and maybe a new bag that works with the light colours of the season, right?

But what about those staples you want to invest in? Spring pieces we can wear again and again, mixing and matching to those temporary fashion trend? With Opus, I found all my answers on how to combine the two: staples and trends!

I am not talking trends today, instead those must-have pieces that will provide you a basic foundation of your spring wardrobe:

  1. Oversized white shirt. This is absolutely an essential! Investing in a quality white shirt that you can wear alone with great accessories or layer like I did in this outfit. I prefer a loose one rather than fitted, I find it more flattering and gives you more room to play with the styling.

2. Trench coat. It’s just great to have a good quality trench coat in your spring wardrobe, being the perfect chic layering piece. I love how a sand colour trench coat looks over a casual outfit to make the look more dressy. It looks great over a white shirt and white jeans for a chic summer vibe. Literally every woman should own a good trench coat! Without the need of totally splurge, the one I am wearing from Opus is great quality and finishing and below 200€!!

3. Hoodie. This is a great alternative to a denim jacket and very trending this season! If you live a super casual lifestyle, you may want one in each colour! I am wearing mine a ton! I love this one in white because even being a very casual piece, the the light colour maintain it very chic!

Would love to hear how’s your spring wardrobe coming together! What are the pieces you can’t live without?

MY 10 TIPS FOR THE MOST COMFORTABLE HOME

Since Emma was born, like in every family, we started to spend more time at home. We felt more and more the need of having a comfortable home that is inviting and make it an enjoyable and memorable place.

I thought of sharing with you today my 10 tips that made my house a comfortable home and made me enjoy it more!

First of all, we are clients of Essent, an energy supplier which helped us creating a warm and comfortable space. Our daily life improved a lot, because everything at home is properly arranged now.

Regardless of the season, every home can benefit from adding a little cozy comfort. Check out my 10 tips and tricks for making your home feel better:

  1. Inviting tones first! Don’t underestimate the inviting power of your favourite colours for a comfortable home feeling. Winter is a long season in The Netherlands, so light tones at home matter. The right colours are a quick trick for adding instant inviting vibes!
  2. Essent supplies excellent gadgets for our home. This helped us a lot was in the daily routine, such as regulating the heating in each different room, not having to remember to turn it down at night or when we leave the house because it’s already programmed. Moreover, Essent cares about saving energy and this way we help the environment and their website is full of tips where I found all the answers to my questions.
  3. Pay attention to details. I tried to consider a guest’s first view of my space and paid special attention to styling that point of view. This created that feeling that people want to stay a while and explore my space and we are having the same good feeling when spending time at home!
  4. For the parents, toys out of the way! Try to corral the toys out of the way and have a dedicated space to them. Since I’ve done this I don’t have that feeling of always having a mess in the house.
  5. Go overboard with leafy, green fluffy plants. Lots of plants just bring life into a space, and make it feel like the kind of welcoming and comfortable home you want to spend an afternoon drinking coffee and reading a magazine.

6. Layer rugs. Add rugs and layer them is giving me a very comfortable home feeling. I piled them on top of each other for extra coziness and be comfortable also sitting on the floor.

7. Include a throw or some fuzz. Accessories are a great way to adjust to seasonal design without fully committing. I love the idea of adding cozy cashmere blankets over my couch where we can snuggle with little Emma and take weekend naps together. Also, nothing says cozy quite like faux fur. The fuzzy material will make your home nice and toasty.

8. Designer furniture pieces. This helps me keeping my place stylish and feels like the places I would normally like to hang out. They are timeless and above what is fashionable at the moment. One designer piece is enough, without breaking the bank, like my ghost chair by Kartell. Plus, adding a seat to your living room gives it a lounge-like appeal that will tempt you to curl up with a magazine.

9. Candles and string lights. Grab some fragrant candles for some good scent floating in the air and string lights for a cozy lighting, different from the regular lamps. It doesn’t have to be Christmas to incorporate string lights into a space.

10. Try a dark piece of furniture. Intensify the cozy factor by adding a dark piece of furniture, like we did with the dark grey couch, to make the space feel inviting. Just be sure to add pops of white to keep it from feeling too heavy.

TOP 5 GINGHAM PIECES FOR SPRING

Happy Sunday! Just ten days left before our holiday to the Canary Islands and I am going to have a very packed week in Amsterdam filled with meetings and deadlines. I just can’t wait to be enjoying the warm weather and the beach!

It’s been warmer the past week and I can’t wait to put away my winter coats! Honestly, I can only think of spring/summer trends at the moment. Gingham is a very big trend this spring and I have already worn this top in February during a party at London fashion week and I am still in love with it. I have lined up for you my favourite top 5 pieces!

These are my top 5 gingham picks:

  1. RIVER ISLAND: This is the top I am wearing. Loving the ruffle sleeves and the front bow.
  2. MADEWELL: Loving the voluminous off-shoulder cut of this top, and the ruffled elastic neckline.
  3. VETIVER: Gingham is a big trend in dresses and skirts this season too and I am definitely falling for these! Both pieces from Madewell and Vetiver are from Shopbop, they have quite a good gingham selection! Some pieces even on sale!
  4. TOPSHOP: Gingham trousers are becoming a must have for spring. These ones with the frill hem are way too cute! Just make sure to wear them with something not too girly or it might be difficult to pull out a good look. I would opt for a grey sweater or a plain white t-shirt.
  5. ASOS: Since my mind is already on a sunny holiday mood, I must take a look to gingham bikinis of course! This bardot one is perfection!

MY NEW SKINCARE ROUTINE WITH MY BLEND

This year my resolution was to take a better care of my skin.. and I am happy to say that is going quite well so far! I believe the right skincare differs from person to person. It’s not an easy job to find the right one for you. When I was asked to test My Blend, I was very intrigued! . .

Besides the skin type, our skin is a reflection of our lifestyle together with all the feeling we come across our busy lives, the commuting to work, the stress, tiredness, but also happiness and relax. As a different approach of many skincare brands, My Blend reflects all the changes we go through every day going beyond the questions of age and skin type.

I did my skin diagnosis online (here) and answered specific questions about my lifestyle, the climatic environment I live in, my food habits, stress level, quality of sleep and more insightful questions about my habits and I received a ultra-personalised skincare line. How cool is that!!

My Blend was created by Dr Olivier Courtin, son of the founder of Clarins, as a perosnalized skincare concept that would enable each skin, regardless of its condition, to recreate an environment that would enhance its regeneration.

Besides the very innovative concept, I really love the sleek packaging and luxury look. Did you ask yourself what are those injections in the images? I am quickly going to explain you how it works! It’s a real-time creation of a unique blend, in case you haven’t seen it in real time on my Instagram stories a few days ago. Once the skin diagnosis selected my day and night creme with the right formula corresponding to my skin profile, I was given 2 boosters blends for each cream. Boosters are pure active ingredients concentrates which meet the specific needs of your skin at a precise stage in your life, according to your lifestyle. Personalisation as its finest!

Finally, what’s a better place to experience the creation of personalised blends than a Spa? For my italian readers and for all of you visiting Italy soon, don’t forget to put in your must-visit-destinations the Spa My Blend by Clarins at The St. Regis in Florence and Gran Melia in Rome! They look paradise!

Last but not least, tonight I am holding a giveaway on my Instagram (here) and it’s super easy to participate! You can win your personalised day cream and two boosters!! Go enter it!!

TOP 5 SPRING COLOUR SWEATERS

Happy Weekend!! Spring is in full swing on my mind as it is our upcoming holiday, in case you saw it on Instagram stories this week.. However, the weather in Amsterdam is everything else but warm and sunny. So, I though of rounding up a selection of spring colour sweaters that can keep up the spring mood, at the same time still keeping us warm.

I have a few spring colour sweaters in particular I am seriously loving at the moment! Here are my top 5 favourites:

  1. ACNE STUDIOS: The one I am wearing in the photos and actually wearing it on repeat these days. Mine is from Shopbop. I love the combination of subtle colours, the oversized silhouette and loose long sleeves. I wear it layered with this Alexander Wang white jersey top, also I found on Shopbop.  A true statement piece!
  2. ENGLISH FACTORY: The Off White colour will make you leave winter feeling behind for sure! The contrast banding is trending at the moment, same as the loose long sleeves styled with extended vents and tie closures at the cuff. This is a winner, also the price is very ‘friendly’! 😉
  3. FREE PEOPLE: Stripes always gives us that ‘I-am-on-a-boat’ holiday feeling which we dream on all year long, right? This season the more colours stripes the best! Love the deconstructed look of this one, dropped shoulders and super long sleeves.
  4. TOPSHOP: Normally I am not a big fun of pink.. but love this very soft shade and the twist wrapped front. A good one to play with different stylings!
  5. ASOS: I keep being attracted by yellow pieces this season, even if I don’t own any yet.. Love how this one is colour block paired with grey. The ties add a feminine look to the man cut. Adorable one!
